On February 15, 1963, Officer Gamble, a 20-year veteran of the police department, died instantly from a gunshot wound he received in a vicious gun battle during a robbery at a local bar.  Acting instinctively as he fell to the floor, Officer Gamble was able to shoot off four shots at his assailant as he ran from the scene.  His assailant, also near death was apprehended in a nearby cabin.  The night of the shooting was to have been Officer Gamble’s last night as a Training Officer with the training platoon on squad car duty.  He would have turned 43 years old the day after his death.

The suspect sentenced to death and executed in 1967.
